Radiant Film Barriers
Hi All,
Here is another very inexpensive way to save energy and lower your electric and heating bill. Called a radiant film barrier it works by blocking the release of either hot or cold air from escaping from your attic. Made of a thin piece of plastic covered by aluminum . What it does is during the winter it keeps the warm air that's being generated by your heater in and reflects the radiant heat away from your attic in the summer thus keeping you house cooler and increasing the effectiveness of you air conditioner. A radiant film barrier will increase the effectiveness of your existing attic insulation and has a theoretical R value of R53, with just 3/4 in of air space required. So you could staple it to the 2x4's in the top of your attic and save energy. At 1000 sq. feet it costs about .13 cents a square foot. Radiant film barriers can also be used for a vapor barrier under your house if it has a raised foundation, blocking vapors that come out of the ground. There are many other ways to lower your energy bill. You can go to my website and check out some of the other methods. Here at SAVE ENERGY
